Meal Replacement Shakes...Yuk?
It seems everyone I know that is losing serious weight is using meal replace, ent shakes. So far I have resisted the temptation. It just doesnt sound that good. So I continue on training for triathlons. Where the cruel irony of exercising is that muscle weighs more than fat. But my Dr. Tells me that's okay, losing inches and not looking flabby is much better. I wish I could do both, quickly, but eking out my few pounds down, a couple pounds up is my life and I'm okay with that.

Fartlek-This is White on Rice for Me...smile
http://video.about.com/running/How-to-Do-a-Run-Walk-10K-Training-Program.htm
So I've been training for my first triathlon Sunday, 1/29/12. Along the way, I've found running to be my most difficult activity. If find myself anaerobic most of the time. This last Saturday I ran with the Triple Crown Running club for the second time. I was lucky enough to have a woman hang back and coach me. Her name was Charlotte and she is a cross country coach!! What luck for me. She told me about interval training and how it is called Fartlek. A terrible sounding word, which I am sure got many jokes and least of all snickers from the school age children she coached.
Fartlek, in a nutshell is interval training. Running and walking for a faster recovery time. I plan to execute this training plan next week before my race. Click on the video above if you would like to try it.

My new baby...nope not a sewing machine
I've been pretty busy with my new bike. It's a Specialized Vita Sport. The weather is getting cooler and so I'm outside a lot enjoying the weather and getting some exercise.
My husband, Bob and I went on a 10 mile ride around downtown Louisville. The planned route came from a fabulous book Wheeling Around Louisville. We wound around Old Louisville and got to stop in on the Garvin Gate Blues Festival.
The trip we took, if you get the book is called Tour of the Nabes. It's a trip through several of Louisville's historic neighborhoods around downtown. Including St. James with it's lovely fountain, yes, the one where the great craft fair is every fall.
I am told this book is designed so that if you ride the rides in order of the book, by the last one, you will be able to go on a century (100 mile) ride. This first lovely ride is called a Turtle Ride, which is a classic term for mapped routes with no hills.
I'm kind of a slow and steady wins the race kinda gal, so it fit me just right!

I survied the excercise, but, I want a pink sash...
OMG! I'm sore, but alive and slept the best I had in a long time. After viewing the video in the previous post, I think if I had a pink sash to wear, it could help. I went with a friend, who also hadn't been to an aerobics class in a long time, but, I'm hesitant to call her to ask if she's sore. I don't want to be negative or discourage her. We both faked it pretty well, I think, but we go back again tomorrow at 9:00am and we'll see how it goes. All I know is, I've got to do some exercise to feel good. As much as I like quilting, it is a sedentary hobby and I must make myself move more. This workout routine is 1hour and 15 minutes with aerobics, weights, and mat work/Pilate's. The instructor has been teaching the class, at our church, for 18 years! So of course, it's all very easy to her and I think she hasn't had someone so new, or at least in a long time. Oh well, it can't hurt me...to much...smile...
