Statement Quilting

This is a quilt I finished that was made from a book published by That Patchwork Place.  It is a Tennessee Waltz quilt.  I put some statement quilting in the "rest the eye" blocks.  I was pleasantly surprised by the way it enhances the arches that are an optic illusion created by the pattern.  All the pieces are straight lines but, when combined with the angles that join the blocks it looks like they are curved.

On my horse quilts I made for my girls the quilting is not statement quilting, it helps to enhance the horses on the quilts.  On Chelsea's Japanese Horse Quilt, I let the background fabric design the quilting and went around the squiggles and grass for the quilting.

Hello,

My name is Jennifer and I am new to quilting. I am currently working on a quilt for my son. Just a simple block quilt! However, I have just fallen in love with the "Race the Wind" quilts that you have completed! You are amazingly talented! Can you give me some pointers on the best way to go about sewing this quilt for both my girls (Christmas)? I am not able to afford a lot of fabric and have mostly ends of pieces that I have been able to collect which is why I thought maybe I would have a chance with this quilt design! I look forward to hearing from you.

Hello,

I was looking at the beautiful quilts on your site! The quilt "Race the Wind" caught my eye as it was beautifully made. You have an amazing talent! I have just started quilting and am working on a simple block quilt for my son. I would love to make two versions of "Race the Wind" for each of my daughters. I am not able to afford to buy new fabric and have mostly ends and pieces which I have gathered over the years so I thought that this quilt would be perfect. Do you have any advice or tips that you could give me (including how to get the pattern?). I would appreciate any and all information that you could provide, remember I'm a newbie!

thank you,
Jennifer
