Part VIII-UFO's that are pretty darn close to finishing

The story of my UFO's continues. Hmmm, now should I count them, I don't know. My theory is, they never go bad on the shelf and I'll get around to completing them. Some are closer to being finished than others. I've got 3 quilt tops ready to be quilted, so I don't count those, except for the fan quilt from my father, which, in the time I've been writing these posts, I have completed! Yeah me!

So, here is a kingsize pink and brown quilt. I've made postings about it on the blog, you can click on the label for it to see the process. Whenever I need to use up a color of fabric, I'll add a white on white to make a scrap quilt out of the colors I've chosen.

This is the Flight of Swallows quilt that I've posted as well on the blog. I just need to applique the birds and baskets on the borders, then quilt it.

8 hours there and back means lots of applique progress

Flight of Swallows progress report.  No time wasted on my trip.  I used the, what's known to me at least as the, Elanore Burns, Quilt in a Day method of appliuqe.  Where you use a light weight interfacing and trace your design on the right side of the interfacing (not where the fusible matter is).  With right side of material and wrong side of fusible interfacing (where the fusible "dots" are), you then use small stitches to outline the design, clip curves and flip right side out.

Hmmm...another zone of quilting, airplanes...smile.

Quilting In All 3 Zones of My House Today...smile

Zone 1-the bedroom, where I do my handwork...gee that doesn't sound so nice...smile, SEWING THAT IS!  Liverpool played Stokes today and I made a few more hexagon flowers for my Tillies' Mosiac.  Slow progress, but that's what handwork is all about.

Zone 2-the dining room, I'm loading up a quilt top, Kitchen Roosters, from my basket I weighed in with last year and never finished.  I was looking for some backing material in my stash when I ran across this lovely vintage table cloth.  It's quite old and has seen better days, but, maybe on the back of a retro fabric style top, it will find new life.  It's a tad small, but we quilters are good at making things work.  I'll probably cut the wider sides off and sew to the bottom and top.

Zone 3-the upstairs bedroom/studio/husbands computer room, I'm working on the Flight of Swallows quilt.

Production feels great.  Idle hands are the devils workshop, or something like that.  Quilters are rarely idle.

Progress report on Tillie's Mosaic Quilt

Besides my instant gratification project, which is what I consider machine piecing, Flight of Swallows, I also have a hand sewing project.  This is my progress on Tillie's Mosaic.  Nope, that's not a horses head in the bed, it's my wonderful hubby's elevated post for sleeping due to his acid reflux.  I had some arthroscopic surgery on my shoulder a couple of weeks ago and so I've been spending some time recuperating in bed, as you can tell by my progress since last writing.  This quilt is kept by my bed and when I'm watching a movie, being someone that can't sit still for too long, I pull it out and work on it.

Ain't Life Grand?

Progress on Flight of Swallows and Quilt Group

I made it to my quilt group, Northeast Quilting Friends, for the second time in a row.  This is a big thing, as I haven't been there in months.  These ladies are prolific, at least some of them are.  They've found adouble secret quilter that does beautiful quilting for 40.00 a quilt-feathers, stippling everything-well worth it.  Every now and then one of the ladies brings several quilts from the group up to her.  Now, I must say, I've known cheaper quilters, my mom has someone that does it for 22.00 a quilt, but, it's loops, but hey it gets them finished and unless you are entering a contest or maybe a special family heirloom, it's really worth it.  I've heard of people passing away with their treasured quilter secret.  So the fact that they ladies would probably run me off if I shared this woman's name, is not beyond the realm of the quilt world.

Here's my progress on the Flight of Swallows.  I went to quilting today, and don't have too much to show for it.  Besides the quilt meetings turning into a gabfest most of the time, we left a little early to check out the new Joann's in Louisville.  As far as I'm concerned our quilt shops don't have anything to worry about, as the fabric is less that quilt shop quality, in my opinion.  But, you know, maybe if they have some really good sales, I'll be back.

Happy Quilting!

Flight of Swallows Quilt...Accountabilty is a good thing.

Progress report on the Flight of Swallows quilt.  Today I cut the sashing and found some border fabric from my stash.  Yes, it was intended for another project, but, I'm intending to work on this one so it quickly moves to the top of the usable heap that is my stash.

Ahhh busting sure feels good.  Won't you join me in my accountability UFO progress?  Post your daily progress on your project.  Working a little everyday and showing it to the world might be just the incentive for me to complete a top and then quilt it.

Happy Quilting!

Finding My Quilt Rhythm

Whew!  It's been a long time since I've been able to sit at the machine and cutting board and enjoy making a quilt.  I started on a new one, Flight of Swallows.  Yes, I know, I've got a glorious amount of piecing potential already started, but, like I like to tell people, it won't go bad on the shelf and someday, I might get to them.

Ahem, one of my favorite things to make are half square triangles and my preferred method is using a grid on fabric.  Working on the wrong side of the fabric and increasing the size of the block by 1/8 inch, I drew 2 7/8th inches squares then drew my cutting line, along which I sew my 1/4 inch seam.  Keep your needle down and pivot and the corners.

This is how my husband and I spend some evenings, me at the machine and him on the PC with his trusty Law and Order on TV....Aaaaahhhh, I'm feeling simply quilty, right now, at least.

Happy Quilting!
